God Is Just A Call Away

Kids should understand that speaking to God is as easy as calling out to Siri or Alexa. In this series, they will look at some of the prayers recorded in the Bible to see just how eager God is to listen to us, speak with us, and answer our prayers.

_______

Hey God Lessons Overview

Memory Verse:

“Always be joyful. Never stop praying.” 1 Thessalonian 5:16-17 (NIrV)

Lessons:

. . . It's Samson

Scripture: Judges 16:21-31, The Death of Samson

Samson had lived a far from perfect life. His last days were spent as a prisoner of the wicked Philistines. Samson made one final request to God – the strength needed to honor God with his final breath.

Objective: Kids will learn that we can pray anytime, anywhere, no matter what challenge we're facing.

. . . It's Hannah

Scripture: 1 Samuel 1:9-18, 24-28, Hannah Prays for A Son

Hannah was brokenhearted because she could not have children. She prayed to God for a son, and the Lord answered her prayers. Hannah committed her son to God, and Samuel would grow up to become a great prophet of God.

Objective: Kids will learn that we can be honest about our desires with God and pray with faith that He knows what we need.

. . . It's Jonah

Scripture: Jonah 1:15-2:10, Jonah's Prayer

Jonah had turned from God. . . and ended up inside the belly of a fish. Jonah prayed to God for help. God saved Jonah, and Jonah recommitted himself to obeying God.

Objective: Kids will learn that we can always turn back to God, no matter how many times we have turned away.

. . . It's Solomon

Scripture: 1 Kings 3:5-14, Solomon Asks for Wisdom

Solomon asked God for wisdom, not for wealth or success. God gave Solomon want he asked for and so much more because Solomon had committed himself to God.

Objective: Kids will learn that prayer is when we should ask God to help us become more like him.

. . . It's Elijah

Scripture: 1 Kings 19:1-16, Elijah in the Wilderness

Elijah had never felt more alone and depressed. The queen had threatened to kill him, and Elijah was on the run in the wilderness. Elijah spoke to God in despair. God provided food, drink, safety, and the assurance that Elijah was not alone.

Objective: Kids will learn that we can turn to God even in our darkest times and know that we are not alone.

. . . It's Daniel

Scripture: Daniel 6:1-22, Daniel Continues to Pray

Even when the king made a law that no one could worship anyone but the king, Daniel remained devoted to God. Daniel prayed in front of his window 3 times every day for the world to see. When this led Daniel into trouble, God was with him and protected Daniel.

Objective: Kids will learn that nothing should stop us from praying to God.

. . . It's Your Son

Scripture: Matthew 26:36-46, Jesus Prays in the Garden

Jesus knew the time for him to die for our sins was coming near. In his distress, he asked the Father if there was another way; but he willingly submitted to God's will and way in the end. We should follow Jesus' example.

Objective: Kids will learn that we should seek God's way to win out over our desires.

. . . It's Peter’s Friends

Scripture: Acts 12:1-19, Peter's Miraculous Escape from Prison

When Peter was in prison, his friends gathered together and prayed for a miracle. And God answered in a big way. We should pray regularly for others, remembering the things that they are going through.

Objective: Kids will learn that it is important for us to pray for other people.

Each Lesson Includes:

  • Make It Stick! Parent Sheet - so you can let mom and dad know what kids are learning each week and look like a rockstar teacher who's thought of everything.
  • Memory Verse - so that you can make sure kids are getting Scripture in their minds and hearts every single week and you can feel like each lesson was a success even when it seems like 90% of your lesson time is spent saying things like "calm down", "let's be quiet", "hands to yourself!"
  • Skit or Puppet Show - so you have a way to easily connect the lesson with your hands-on and visual learners. No drama team? No problem! Just hand the script to the kids. They'll have a blast and think you're the coolest.
  • Craft Activity - so you can give kids a physical reminder of the Bible lesson (and give yourself an activity to keep them busy until mom and dad come back!)
  • Game - so kids don't leave and say church was BORING! Games are so important to help keep kids engaged. Our large group games always include a "What's The Point" section to help you connect the game to the lesson.
  • Large Group Lesson - so you can present the Bible story in a clear and fun way, which means now you can enjoy Saturday nights instead of stressing over putting a lesson together!
  • Small-Group Discussion - so you can find out who was paying attention and who was talking to their neighbor.  Just kidding, this is a great way for you to build deeper relationships with your kiddos after each lesson, which means you're going to care about them so much you'll cry like a baby when they graduate and go to middle school :(
  • More! - Yes, there is even more than all of that so that you can easily put together the perfect lesson for your ministry each weekend, which means no more agonizing over how to adjust complicated lesson plans.
