Description

The God of Second Chances!

In board games, the player takes bad turns sometimes. But the next roll of the dice or spin of the wheel might have you in a good position again. As long as the game is going, there are always second chances. It is the same with God. Our sin and bad decisions are not the end of the story. God offers us second chances, do overs, and a chance to roll-again.

_______

Roll Again Lessons Overview

Memory Verse (First 6 Lessons):

“The free gift of God’s grace makes us right with him. Christ Jesus paid the price to set us free.” Romans 3:24 (NIRV)

Memory Verse (Last 6 Lessons):

“But God is faithful and fair. If we confess our sins, he will forgive our sins. He will forgive every wrong thing we have done. He will make us pure.” 1 John 1:9 (NIRV)

LESSONS:

Bad Hand (King Saul)

Scripture: 1 Samuel 19:1-12, Saul Tries to Kill David

Saul was the king of all Israel, but although he had it all, he burned with jealousy for David. David's victories in battle made him popular and successful. Saul ignored all of the blessings that God had given him, and instead tried to kill David.

Objective: Kids will learn we get in trouble when we focus on what we don’t have instead of the good things God has done for us.

Draw Another Card (King Saul's Second Chance)

Scripture: 1 Samuel 24:1-22, David Spares Saul's Life

When Saul wandered into a cave where David and his men were hiding, David had a chance to take Saul's life. But David loved Saul and loved God even more and decided to do the right thing: give Saul a second chance, even though he didn't deserve it.

Objective: Kids will learn that we can give others second chances even when they don't deserve them.

Wrong Move (David)

Scripture: 2 Samuel 11:1-5 & 11:14-17, David and Bathsheba

David had always been a great man of God, but even David made mistakes. When he took his eyes off God and instead looked where he shouldn't, it was the beginning of all kinds of trouble.

Objective: Kids will learn we get in trouble when we take our eyes off the things of God.

Take Another Turn (David's Second Chance)

Scripture: 2 Samuel 12:1-14, Nathan Rebukes David

God sent the prophet Nathan to David to confront him about his sin. Instead of hiding, David admitted his sin, asked for forgiveness, and received it.

Objective: Kids will learn that God can use godly people to help convict us of sin.

Do Not Pass Go (Jonah)

Scripture: Jonah 1, Jonah Runs From God

God told Jonah to go to Nineveh. Jonah didn't listen and instead got into a boat going the other way. One fierce storm and one toss in the water later and Jonah found himself inside the belly of a huge fish.

Objective: Kids will learn we can avoid all kinds of trouble if we obey God.

Winning Strategy (Jonah's Second Chance)

Scripture: Jonah 2 & 3, Jonah's Prayer and Jonah Goes to Nineveh

Inside the belly of the fish, Jonah prayed to God and was saved. God again told Jonah to go to Nineveh, and this time Jonah obeyed. He wasn't going to squander this second chance.

Objective: Kids will learn that asking God for a second chance through prayer is always a winning strategy.

Take a Chance (Jacob)

Scripture: Genesis 27:6-29, 27:41-45, Jacob Steals Esau's Blessing

Jacob took a big risk when he impersonated his brother Esau to get their father's blessing. It paid off, but with terrible consequences: Jacob had to leave his family and the only home he'd ever known.

Objective: Kids will learn our sin and bad behavior can hurt us and those we love.

Home Base (Jacob's Second Chance)

Scripture: Genesis 32:22 – 33:12, Jacob and Esau Reunite

Years later, Jacob knew that he was going to see his brother Esau again and he was worried. But what he found out was that his brother still loved him and had forgiven Jacob for the bad things he had done.

Objective: Kids will learn that God can heal any broken relationship.

Read The Instructions (Saul/Paul)

Scripture: Acts 7:54 – 8:3, The Persecution of the Church

After Jesus returned to heaven, the church began to grow. Saul hated this and did whatever he could to stop it. Even though Saul was working against God's church, at the time Saul thought that he was doing the right thing, a good thing.

Objective: Kids will learn that if we are not spending time with God, we can think our bad behavior is good.

Another Life (Saul/Paul's Second Chance)

Scripture: Acts 9:1-21, Saul's Conversion

When Saul met Jesus on the road to Damascus, he realized that Jesus is our Savior and Lord. With this second chance, Saul completely turned his life around: from trying to stop the Christ followers to becoming one of the bravest and boldest Christ followers the world has ever seen.

Objective: Kids will learn when God gives us a second chance it can completely turn our lives around.

Lose a Turn (Peter)

Scripture: Luke 22:54-62, Peter Disowns Jesus

When Jesus was arrested, the disciples were sad and afraid. Peter had been bold before, but in this moment he was scared. He lied so that people would not think that he followed Jesus. It was a terribly bad decision.

Objective: Kids will learn that we should never be afraid to say “I follow Jesus.”

Final Victory (Peter's Second Chance)

Scripture: John 21:15-19, Jesus Reinstates Peter

Even though Peter had denied Jesus three times, that was not the end of his story. Jesus gave Peter three chances to declare his love for Him: one to cover over each denial from before. Peter became a great leader of the early church, leading many to follow Jesus.

Objective: Kids will learn that no matter what mistakes you’ve made, Jesus loves you and wants to be your Savior. You just have to ask.

Each Lesson Includes:
  • Make It Stick! Parent Sheet - so you can let mom and dad know what kids are learning each week and look like a rockstar teacher who's thought of everything.
  • Memory Verse - so that you can make sure kids are getting Scripture in their minds and hearts every single week and you can feel like each lesson was a success even when it seems like 90% of your lesson time is spent saying things like "calm down", "let's be quiet", "hands to yourself!"
  • Skit or Puppet Show - so you have a way to easily connect the lesson with your hands-on and visual learners. No drama team? No problem! Just hand the script to the kids. They'll have a blast and think you're the coolest.
  • Craft Activity - so you can give kids a physical reminder of the Bible lesson (and give yourself an activity to keep them busy until mom and dad come back!)
  • Game - so kids don't leave and say church was BORING! Games are so important to help keep kids engaged. Our large group games always include a "What's The Point" section to help you connect the game to the lesson.
  • Large Group Lesson - so you can present the Bible story in a clear and fun way, which means now you can enjoy Saturday nights instead of stressing over putting a lesson together!
  • Small-Group Discussion - so you can find out who was paying attention and who was talking to their neighbor.  Just kidding, this is a great way for you to build deeper relationships with your kiddos after each lesson, which means you're going to care about them so much you'll cry like a baby when they graduate and go to middle school :(
  • More! - Yes, there is even more than all of that so that you can easily put together the perfect lesson for your ministry each weekend, which means no more agonizing over how to adjust complicated lesson plans.
