The Ultimate Escape!

Join archeologist and adventurer Colorado Smith as he seeks to unravel the mystery of the Puzzling Pyramids with the aid of some very helpful Egyptian animals he meets along the way. Colorado doesn’t know much about the life of Moses, but he thinks there is a great treasure to be found if he can piece together the clues in Moses’ life. This ancient Egypt-themed VBS will have kids learning about the early life of Moses, how God used him to help the Israelites escape their Egyptian slavery, and ultimately how we can escape from our slavery to sin.

Puzzling Pyramids VBS Overview:

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. ” Romans 8:28 (NIV)

Lyle the Nile Crocodile

Scripture: Exodus 1:22-2:10, The Birth of Moses

Colorado Smith was lucky to meet a friendly guy like Lyle in a river full of crocodiles that were ready to attack. When the baby Moses was placed in the Nile river, he didn't encounter any crocs, but he did have a meeting with Pharaoh's daughter which forever changed the course of history.

Objective: Kids will learn that “God can work all things for my good.”

Della Mode the Delta Toad

Scripture: Exodus 2:11-15, Moses Flees, Exodus 3:1-12, God Calls Moses

Colorado Smith was in certain peril, until Della Mode hopped to his rescue. Moses had fled Egypt for Midian, but God told Moses to “hop to it” and get back to Egypt and save God's people, the Israelites.

Objective: Kids will learn that “God loves me and has a purpose for my life.”

Cobra Cairo

Scripture: Exodus 7:8-13, Moses and Aaron Before Pharaoh

Colorado Smith hates snakes, or at least he did until he met Cairo, who showed him the way to slither into the secret chamber of the Puzzling Pyramids. When Moses demanded that Pharaoh release God's people, Pharaoh refused. There was no way into Pharaoh's hard heart. Not even when God performed miracles. Not even when God sent plagues over the land.

Objective: Kids will learn that “When God speaks, I will listen.”

Felix the Pharaoh’s Feline

Scripture: Exodus 12:21-23, The Passover, Revelation 3:20-21, I Stand at the Door

Colorado Smith thought he would never find his way out of the Puzzling Pyramids, until he met Felix. Cats were treasured by the pharaohs, and although they are said to have 9 lives, they really only have one, just like every other living thing. But those who give their hearts to Jesus, are given a second life with Him. When God sent the final plague against Egypt, he provided a way for his people to be protected - they had to cover their doors with the blood of a lamb. Hundreds of years later, God sent another lamb, his Son, Jesus, to save us from sin and death forever.

Objective: Kids will learn that “Jesus saves people from sin and death.”

Camilla Camel

Scripture: Exodus 14:10-31, Crossing the Red Sea

Colorado Smith makes his daring escape from the Puzzling Pyramid riding Camilla Camel. God miraculously designed camels to be able to travel through the desert for long periods of time without requiring water. Moses and God's people had made their escape from Egypt, but the Pharaoh went out with his army to bring them back. The Israelites were trapped. But God worked a miracle to save His people. Colorado Smith finally realizes the treasure is that Moses’ life gives us a picture of the ultimate treasure - salvation through Jesus.

Objective: Kids will learn that “I can trust Jesus to save me.”
