Learning to Listen and Follow God

Jonah disobeyed God. Jonah got angry at God. But Jonah also learned to follow God. Jonah helped an entire city turn toward God. Jonah's life shows us the importance of learning to obey God. Kids will learn we should listen to God and obey Him.

Jonah Runs From God

Scripture: Jonah 1:1-16, Jonah Flees From The Lord

God spoke to Jonah: he wanted Jonah to tell the people of Nineveh about God. Jonah didn't want to listen, so he went off and did his own thing. Jonah soon learned the hard way how important it is to listen when God speaks to us.

Objective: Kids will learn we should listen to God. 

The Big Fish

Scripture: Jonah 1:17-2:10, Jonah Inside The Fish

Jonah was thrown off a boat in the middle of a storm. Instead of drowning, he was swallowed by a big fish. Inside the fish, Jonah prayed to God, and God heard Jonah's cries for help.  

Objective: Kids will learn God hears us when we talk to Him. 

Jonah Obeys God

Scripture: Jonah 3, Jonah Goes To Nineveh

God gave Jonah a second chance to preach to the people of Nineveh, and this time Jonah was ready to listen and obey. When the people of Nineveh heard Jonah's words, they turned from doing things the wrong way and started doing things God’s way.  

Objective: Kids will learn that we should do things God’s way. 

Jonah's Anger

Scripture: Jonah 4, Jonah's Anger at God

The people of Nineveh had turned from doing things the wrong way. God showed His love for them by forgiving them. This made Jonah unhappy.  God shows that He can forgive everyone for the times we choose to do wrong things.  

Objective: Kids will learn that we can forgive others because God forgives us.
