Keeping cool when things get hot!
Emotions are like a force of nature, but with God’s help, we can learn to take control of our emotions before a storm hits! During our fun week at the Lava Lava Luau, we’ll see what God’s Word says about anger, sadness, jealousy, and frustration and learn how we can respond to others who may be feeling these emotions as well. In Lava Lava Luau 5-Day VBS curriculum, kids will learn Biblical ways to express and deal with their emotions.
To get the additional countdown video, and games videos pictured above make sure you select the "VBS + Media Pack" option above. All of these additional videos and images are available separately for $135, but you can get them all for only $72 when you order them together with the Lava Lava Luau VBS. Lava Lava Luau VBS Overview:
MEMORY VERSE:
“God gave us his Spirit. And the Spirit doesn’t make us weak and fearful. Instead, the Spirit gives us power and love. He helps us control ourselves.” 2 Timothy 1:7 (NIrV)
Lessons:
Angry Volcano (Anger)
Numbers 20:1-13, Moses Loses It
Anger can make us blow up like a volcano, but the fallout from our eruptions is never good. Moses lost his temper and lost a chance to enter the Promised Land. With God’s help, we can take control of anger before we burst.
Objective: Kids will say, “God can help me keep my cool.”
Cool Shirt (Jealousy)
Genesis 4:1-12, Cain and Abel
Jealousy ruins a good luau - maybe not for others, but certainly for us. Cain’s jealousy led to a cruel act that meant he would never again share a table with his family. Instead of being jealous, God wants us to be content just knowing Him.
Objective: Kids will say, “Having God is enough for me!”
Frustration Beach (Frustration)
Matthew 7:24-27, House on a Rock
Just as the sands on the beach are constantly shifting, our world is constantly changing. All that change can leave us frustrated! When everything is shifting sand around us, we can stand firm knowing our foundation is in Jesus.
Objective: Kids will say, “Jesus is my foundation.”
Weeping Rains (Sadness)
Mark 15:22-30, 37-41; Matthew 28:1-10, Jesus’ Death and Resurrection
Sadness can seem never ending, like a storm that just won’t let up. It can ruin a good luau. Fortunately, we have Jesus. Jesus can wipe away our tears and give us joy, even in the midst of great sadness.
Objective: Kids will say, “Jesus can give me joy when I am sad.”
Sweet Sweet Pineapple (Responding to bad emotions with kindness)
Acts 16:16-40, Paul and Silas in Jail
We can control our emotions to keep the luau going, but how do we respond to others who are threatening to bring down the party? When we respond to others with love and kindness, many times we will see God soften the other person’s hard heart and replace it with the sweet joy that comes from knowing God’s love.
Objective: Kids will say, “I will respond to negative attitudes with kindness.”
