Experience the colors of Easter.

The Easter message comes to life in vivid color: from the gold of kings to the blackness of sin, the red blood shed on the cross, and the green of new life. Kids will have a large canvas on stage covered with all four colors during the first 4 weeks.  There will be a cross in the center of the canvas.  In the final week, the cross will be removed, revealing the pure white outline of the cross. The idea is that the kids will make a mess of the canvas each week with a specific color, and then, last week, they will talk about forgiveness and salvation.

Color Wars Children's Ministry Curriculum Lesson Overview

Memory Verse:

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come. The old has gone, the new is here!” - 2 Corinthians 5:17 (NIV)

Lessons:

Purple
Scripture: Luke 19:28-40, Jesus enters Jerusalem
Before he was born, he was called the Prince of Peace. Today we call him King of Kings. Jesus is our king, and his Kingdom is in Heaven. But this king entered Jerusalem 2000 years ago not to conquer the Romans like many thought, but to conquer an even greater enemy that we could not defeat ourselves.
Objective: Kids will learn that gold reminds us that Jesus is the King of Kings and greater than any earthly treasure or power.

Black
Scripture: Genesis 3:1-6, The Fall 1 Corinthians 15:1-2
The world was a beautiful place. It still is. But sin has made it dark. It’s because of the blackness of sin that Jesus came. It was our sin that Jesus defeated on the cross.
Objective: Kids will learn that black represents the sin that separates us from God.

Red
Scripture: Mark 15:16-38, Jesus is Crucified Romans 6:23
The Bible tells us that the price of sin is death: eternal separation from God. The only way to save us from sin was for Jesus to become a perfect sacrifice for our sin. Jesus willingly allowed himself to be arrested, tried, tortured, and put to death in an unimaginably cruel way. Why? So he could save us from sin.
Objective: Kids will learn, red represents the blood Jesus spilled for us.

Green
Scripture: Mark 16:1-7, Jesus is Risen
Green is the color of spring. It’s the color of real grass and easter grass. Green means renewal and new life. Green reminds us that Jesus rose from the grave. It also reminds us that we can have new life and growth when we believe in Jesus.
Objective: Kids will learn, green reminds us of the new life Jesus offers us.

White
Scripture: Acts 2:36-40, Peter’s sermon at Pentecost
White means purity. White means clean. Peter’s sermon at Pentecost brings us the final message in our series and one of the most important in the Bible. If we believe in Jesus, he will wash away our sins and make our hearts white as snow!
Objective: Kids will learn, white reminds us that no matter how messy our past looks, Jesus can wash away our sins.

  • Memory Verse - so that you can make sure kids are getting Scripture in their minds and hearts every single week and you can feel like each lesson was a success even when it seems like 90% of your lesson time is spent saying things like "calm down", "let's be quiet", "hands to yourself!"
  • Skit or Puppet Show - so you have a way to easily connect the lesson with your hands-on and visual learners. No drama team? No problem! Just hand the script to the kids. They'll have a blast and think you're the coolest.
  • Craft Activity - so you can give kids a physical reminder of the Bible lesson (and give yourself an activity to keep them busy until mom and dad come back!)
  • Game - so kids don't leave and say church was BORING! Games are so important to help keep kids engaged. Our large group games always include a "What's The Point" section to help you connect the game to the lesson.
  • Large Group Lesson - so you can present the Bible story in a clear and fun way, which means now you can enjoy Saturday nights instead of stressing over putting a lesson together!
  • Small-Group Discussion - so you can find out who was paying attention and who was talking to their neighbor.  Just kidding, this is a great way for you to build deeper relationships with your kiddos after each lesson, which means you're going to care about them so much you'll cry like a baby when they graduate and go to middle school :(
  • More! - Yes, there is even more than all of that so that you can easily put together the perfect lesson for your ministry each weekend, which means no more agonizing over how to adjust complicated lesson plans.
