_______

High Score Lessons Overview

MEMORY VERSE:

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart. Do not depend on your own understanding. In all your ways obey him. Then he will make your paths smooth and straight. ” Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIRV)

Lessons:

Player One

Scripture: 1 Kings 17:1-6, Famine In Israel

The adventure begins when Player One starts the game. When Ahab was king, a man named Elijah suddenly appeared on the scene with an important message about a coming famine. It was a tough assignment, but Elijah was a willing Player for the only One true God.

Objective: Kids will learn “I will go wherever God leads, even when it's hard.”

Easter Eggs

Scripture: 1 Kings 17:7-16, Elijah and the Widow

In a video game, an Easter egg is a hidden message or feature that players have to discover. When Elijah encountered the widow, she had only enough food for her son and her to eat one last meal. But she discovered this Easter egg: God kept her supplies full so that she never ran out.

Objective: Kids will learn “I can trust that God knows and will provide what I need.”

Regenerate

Scripture: 1 Kings 17:17-24, The Widow's Son

In video games, players have the power to regenerate with the push of a button. In real life, only God has the power to regenerate us. When the widow's son died, God used Elijah to regenerate the boy and bring him back to life.

Objective: Kids will learn “God is powerful and mighty to save.”

Glitch

Scripture: 1 Kings 18:17-39, Elijah on Mount Carmel

In video games, a glitch means that the game is not behaving as it is intended. On Mount Carmel, the prophets of Baal were experiencing a glitch when they could not rise to meet Elijah's challenge. They soon discovered that Elijah's God doesn't glitch, because he is the only one true God.

Objective: Kids will learn “There is only one true God.”

Energy Restored

Scripture: 1 Kings 19:1-18, Gods Speaks to Elijah

Sometimes after executing a powerful move, players need to cool down until their energy is restored. The same thing happens in real life. After defeating the prophets of Baal, Elijah was weak, sad, and lonely. God showed up and restored Elijah's energy.

Objective: Kids will learn, “I can always call out to God and He will hear me.”

Noob

Scripture: 1 Kings 19:19-21, Elijah and Elisha

A “noob” is a newbie, a player that is obviously new to the game. When Elijah needed support, God sent him to Elisha. Although Elisha was a “noob” to being a prophet, he was a great helper and friend to Elijah.

Objective: Kids will learn, “It’s important to have Godly friends.”

Cheat Codes

Scripture: 2 Kings 1:1-4, Judgment on Ahaziah

In video games “cheat codes” can give you all kinds of special powers and help you advance through the game. The problem is, no one wants to play with someone who uses cheat codes to win! So when it comes to actually being good enough to beat a video game, cheat codes have no real power.  When King Ahaziah suffered a terrible injury, he didn't turn to God. Instead, he turned to idols and made up gods. Ahaziah learned too late that these made up gods had no power to save him.

Objective: Kids will learn, “God and God alone deserves my complete trust and my praise.”

Level Up

Scripture: 2 Kings 2:1-15, Chariot of Fire

The reward for doing well in game play is when you “level up.” At the end of his life, Elijah literally leveled up, when God sent a chariot of fire to take him up into Heaven. Elijah received an amazing reward for a life focused on God.

Objective: Kids will learn, “If I put my faith in Jesus, I can experience God’s amazing rewards.”

_______

Each Lesson Includes:
  • Make It Stick! Parent Sheet - so you can let mom and dad know what kids are learning each week and look like a rockstar teacher who's thought of everything.
  • Memory Verse - so that you can make sure kids are getting Scripture in their minds and hearts every single week and you can feel like each lesson was a success even when it seems like 90% of your lesson time is spent saying things like "calm down", "let's be quiet", "hands to yourself!"
  • Skit or Puppet Show - so you have a way to easily connect the lesson with your hands-on and visual learners. No drama team? No problem! Just hand the script to the kids. They'll have a blast and think you're the coolest.
  • Craft Activity - so you can give kids a physical reminder of the Bible lesson (and give yourself an activity to keep them busy until mom and dad come back!)
  • Game - so kids don't leave and say church was BORING! Games are so important to help keep kids engaged. Our large group games always include a "What's The Point" section to help you connect the game to the lesson.
  • Large Group Lesson - so you can present the Bible story in a clear and fun way, which means now you can enjoy Saturday nights instead of stressing over putting a lesson together!
  • Small-Group Discussion - so you can find out who was paying attention and who was talking to their neighbor.  Just kidding, this is a great way for you to build deeper relationships with your kiddos after each lesson, which means you're going to care about them so much you'll cry like a baby when they graduate and go to middle school :(
  • More! - Yes, there is even more than all of that so that you can easily put together the perfect lesson for your ministry each weekend, which means no more agonizing over how to adjust complicated lesson plans.
