Crazy Not to Worship God.

You might be familiar with the Savannah Bananas, the baseball team that “goes bananas” for the game and acts in outrageous ways for the audience. In this series, kids will learn that it's okay and appropriate to “go bananas” when we are worshipping God, the most important audience we have.

Look Up Children's Ministry Curriculum Lesson Overview

Memory Verse:

“Praise the Lord. I will praise the Lord with all my heart.” Psalm 111:1a (NIRV)

Lessons:

Going Bananas
Scripture: 2 Samuel 6:12-22, David Dances
If you are going bananas, you are acting in a way that looks out of the ordinary or even strange. When David's wife saw David dancing before God, she thought he was going bananas, but David knew that God is worth going bananas for.
Objective: Kids will say “I worship God with everything that I have.”

A Few Bananas Short of a Bunch
Scripture: Luke 19:1-10, Zacchaeus
Someone who is a few bananas short of a bunch, isn't all there. When Zacchaeus decided to give away half of everything he had, some people must have thought he was a few bananas short of a bunch, but Zacchaeus was worshipping God with his money and his stuff.
Objective: Kids will say “I worship God with my time, my money and my stuff.”

Banana Split
Scripture: Job 1:13-22, Job Loses Everything
Job lost everything. His money, his children, his possessions had all split. He had every reason to be depressed and sad. But the one thing Job realized is that God still deserves the praise, even if everything in Job's life had gone wrong. God is still good even when life doesn't seem good.
Objective: Kids will say “I worship God because he is always good.”

Banana Peel
Scripture: Mark 14:1-9, Jesus Anointed
To slip on a banana peel is to mess up, make a mistake. The woman who anointed Jesus had slipped on the banana peel plenty of times, but she didn't let that stop her from coming to Jesus and worshipping him.
Objective: Kids will say “I worship God because he is perfect and I am not.”

Second Banana
Scripture: Luke 19:28-42, Triumphal Entry
To be the second banana is to recognize that there is someone more important out there than you. Worship is a celebration of the top banana and a recognition that the rest of us are just second bananas.
Objective: Kids will say “I worship God because he is the most important.”

EACH LESSON INCLUDES:

  • Make It Stick! Parent Sheet - so you can let mom and dad know what kids are learning each week and look like a rockstar teacher who's thought of everything.
  • Memory Verse - so that you can make sure kids are getting Scripture in their minds and hearts every single week and you can feel like each lesson was a success even when it seems like 90% of your lesson time is spent saying things like "calm down", "let's be quiet", "hands to yourself!"
  • Skit or Puppet Show - so you have a way to easily connect the lesson with your hands-on and visual learners. No drama team? No problem! Just hand the script to the kids. They'll have a blast and think you're the coolest.
  • Craft Activity - so you can give kids a physical reminder of the Bible lesson (and give yourself an activity to keep them busy until mom and dad come back!)
  • Game - so kids don't leave and say church was BORING! Games are so important to help keep kids engaged. Our large group games always include a "What's The Point" section to help you connect the game to the lesson.
  • Large Group Lesson - so you can present the Bible story in a clear and fun way, which means now you can enjoy Saturday nights instead of stressing over putting a lesson together!
  • Small-Group Discussion - so you can find out who was paying attention and who was talking to their neighbor.  Just kidding, this is a great way for you to build deeper relationships with your kiddos after each lesson, which means you're going to care about them so much you'll cry like a baby when they graduate and go to middle school :(
  • More! - Yes, there is even more than all of that so that you can easily put together the perfect lesson for your ministry each weekend, which means no more agonizing over how to adjust complicated lesson plans.
