Description

Jesus meets us in our mess.

Jesus met many people during his earthly ministry. Each person had their own story and their own struggles, but He invited everyone to follow him, regardless of their past. The same is true of us. Jesus wants to meet us right where we are.

Ooey Gooey Lessons Overview

MEMORY VERSE:

“Jesus heard that. So he said to them, “Those who are healthy don’t need a doctor. Sick people do. I have not come to get those who think they are right with God to follow me. I have come to get sinners to follow me.” Mark 2:17

Lessons:

Messy Life

John 4:7-30, Jesus Talks With a Woman From Samaria

Not only was the woman at the well a Samaritan woman, a sworn enemy of the Jewish people who was considered unclean, but she also had a messy past. Jesus chose this unlikely woman to begin proclaiming His name throughout Samaria.

Objective: Kids will say, “I can spread the good news of Jesus even though I’m not perfect.”

Messy Inside

Mark 5:1-20, Jesus Heals a Man Controlled by Demons

There was a man known to have been possessed by many demons. The man was in agony, but Jesus came and took away his pain and changed his life.

Objective: Kids will say, “Jesus has the power to take away my struggles.”

Messy Outside

Luke 17:11-19, Jesus Heals Ten Men Who Have a Skin Disease

Jesus once met ten men with leprosy, a nasty disease that made people unclean. Jesus wasn’t afraid to become unclean to heal these men.

Objective: Kids will say, “Jesus has the power to heal our messy wounds.”

Mess With Purpose

John 9:1-12, Jesus Heals a Man Born Blind

Once there was a man born blind. In the days of Jesus, people believed that these kinds of circumstances were always because of some sort of sin. Jesus not only came and healed the man’s sight by spitting on the ground and making mud but also made clear that messy situations can be used to show His power.

Objective: Kids will say, “God can use our messes for His glory.”

Jesus in Our Mess

Mark 5:21-42, Jesus Heals a Dead Girl and a Suffering Woman

In Jesus’s day, many laws about being “unclean” existed. Jesus broke two laws in one day all for the sake of healing people. Jesus put relationships above rules.

Objective: Kids will say, “Jesus is willing to get messy for us.”

Death is Messy

John 11:17-44, Jesus Comforts the Sisters of Lazarus

Lazarus was one of Jesus’s best friends. The news of the death of Lazarus brought Jesus to tears. But Jesus is even more powerful than death and brought Lazarus back to life.

Objective: Kids will say, “Even death is not too big of a mess for Jesus.”

The Mess of Sin

Mark 2:1-12, Jesus Forgives and Heals a Paralyzed Man

Four friends help a paralyzed man meet Jesus in the hopes that He would heal him. Jesus went above and beyond, not only healing but also forgiving the sins of this man, something no ordinary man has the right to do.

Objective: Kids will say “Jesus can forgive the mess of our sins.”

Saved from the Mess

Luke 23:32-43, Thief on the Cross

Even though Jesus was innocent, he was sentenced to death alongside two criminals. One criminal believed that Jesus is who He says He is. At that moment, Jesus promised the criminal paradise.

Objective: Kids will say, “Jesus can save us from our mess.”

_______

Each Lesson Includes:
  • Make It Stick! Parent Sheet - so you can let mom and dad know what kids are learning each week and look like a rockstar teacher who's thought of everything.
  • Memory Verse - so that you can make sure kids are getting Scripture in their minds and hearts every single week and you can feel like each lesson was a success even when it seems like 90% of your lesson time is spent saying things like "calm down", "let's be quiet", "hands to yourself!"
  • Skit or Puppet Show - so you have a way to easily connect the lesson with your hands-on and visual learners. No drama team? No problem! Just hand the script to the kids. They'll have a blast and think you're the coolest.
  • Craft Activity - so you can give kids a physical reminder of the Bible lesson (and give yourself an activity to keep them busy until mom and dad come back!)
  • Game - so kids don't leave and say church was BORING! Games are so important to help keep kids engaged. Our large group games always include a "What's The Point" section to help you connect the game to the lesson.
  • Large Group Lesson - so you can present the Bible story in a clear and fun way, which means now you can enjoy Saturday nights instead of stressing over putting a lesson together!
  • Small-Group Discussion - so you can find out who was paying attention and who was talking to their neighbor.  Just kidding, this is a great way for you to build deeper relationships with your kiddos after each lesson, which means you're going to care about them so much you'll cry like a baby when they graduate and go to middle school :(
  • More! - Yes, there is even more than all of that so that you can easily put together the perfect lesson for your ministry each weekend, which means no more agonizing over how to adjust complicated lesson plans.
