Jesus Yesterday. Jesus Today. Jesus Forever

Morgan is on a mission to show her brother Hank that the Bible (and life itself) is all about Jesus. To prove it, Hank and Morgan will take their time machine on an unforgettable backward journey through the New and Old Testaments to find that Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

_______

Time Travelers Lessons Overview

MEMORY VERSE (FIRST 6 LESSONS):

“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” Hebrews 13:8 (NIRV)

MEMORY VERSE (LAST 6 LESSONS):

“I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End,” says the Lord God. “I am the God Who is, and Who was, and Who will come. I am the Mighty One.”
Revelation 1:8 (NIRV)

LESSONS:

A Place at the Table

Scripture: Acts 10:9-23, Peter's Vision

Jesus was Jewish and all of his followers at the beginning were Jewish. Hank and Morgan travel to first century Judah, where Peter has just had a vision from God that reveals Jesus came to save everyone, of every nation, of every culture, of every time.

Objective: Kids will learn no matter where we come from or what we've done, we can all choose to follow Jesus.

Fire in The Church

Scripture: Acts 2:1-12, The Holy Spirit Comes at Pentecost

After learning that anyone can be part of God's Church, Hank is curious to see when the Church started. Morgan takes Hank to the day of Pentecost, where the Holy Spirit came and the Church was born.

Objective: Kids will learn all who follow Jesus are members of God's church.

One Early Sunday Morning

Scripture: John 20:1-18, The Empty Tomb

Hank and Morgan join Mary at the empty tomb, where they discover that the tomb is empty. When the encounter Jesus, they understand that He is risen. Because Jesus is alive, we can live forever with Him.

Objective: Kids will learn that we can live forever with Jesus, because Jesus is alive!

Forgive Me

Scripture: Luke 23:32-47, The Crucifixion

Hank saw Jesus at the empty tomb, but wonders now “Did Jesus really die?” Morgan will take Hank to the cross to see for himself the way Jesus suffered and died so that he could offer us forgiveness.

Objective: Kids will learn that because Jesus died, we can have forgiveness.

On the Road

Scripture: John 5:1-15, The Healing at the Pool

Jesus traveled the countryside telling people about the kingdom of God. Hank and Morgan join Jesus as He enters Bethesda and meet a crippled man who is hoping in superstition to make him better. But he soon learns, we should place all of hope in Jesus, who truly has the power to heal.

Objective: Kids will learn that we can place all of our hope in Jesus.

Jesus For the Save

Scripture: Isaiah 6:1-8, Isaiah's Commission & Isaiah 7:13-14, Prophecy About Jesus

The kingdom of Israel was broken, the people were scattered and shaken and they needed to know that God would save them. Through the prophets God told the people that better days were ahead – The Savior was coming.

Objective: Kids will learn that even when we feel broken, Jesus is our Savior.

King of Kings

Scripture: 1 Samuel 8:4-22, Israel Asks for a King

The people of Israel demanded a king, so God allowed them to appoint a ruler for themselves. But due to corruption and turning away from God, the time of the kings would not last long. . . that is until God would send a king who would rule over our hearts and minds forever.

Objective: Kids will learn that Jesus is the King of our hearts and minds forever.

0 For 10

Scripture: Exodus 32:1-8, 15-30, The Golden Calf

God gave the 10 Commandments to Moses and the people to show them the way to live righteous lives. But as Hank and Morgan will discover, the people were too busy breaking the commandments to pay attention.

Objective: Kids will learn that there is no righteousness apart from Jesus.

Promises

Scripture: Genesis 15:1-6, God's Covenant with Abram

Hank and Morgan will join Abram as God promises that his offspring will be as numerous as the stars in the sky. Morgan will explain to God planned out every detail: that Abram's descendants would become the nation of Israel and Jesus would be one of those descendants – the brightest star that has ever shined on earth.

Objective: Kids will learn that Jesus cares about every detail of our lives.

Rough Sailing

Scripture: Genesis 6:9-7:5, The Flood

Hank and Morgan travel to the time of Noah during a time of great wickedness in the earth. Hank and Morgan will come to understand that the punishment for sin is death, and that only Jesus could disrupt and destroy the pattern of sin and death.

Objective: Kids will learn that Jesus took the punishment for sin that we deserved.

Where Are You?

Scripture: Genesis 3:1-13, 21-24, The Fall

Going back to the time of Adam and Eve, Hank is eager to see Jesus again. What he sees instead is the very first sin being committed. Hank and Morgan come to understand that Jesus came to earth to conquer sin.

Objective: Kids will learn that without Jesus, we are helpless in our sin.

Let “Us” Create

Scripture: Genesis 2:4-23, Adam and Eve

Hank and Morgan travel all the way back to the beginning, when God – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit – created the world and everything in it. They will learn that not only was Jesus there during creation, but Jesus loves us, His most prized creation.

Objective: Kids will learn that we are Jesus' most valuable creation.

Each Lesson Includes:
  • Make It Stick! Parent Sheet - so you can let mom and dad know what kids are learning each week and look like a rockstar teacher who's thought of everything.
  • Memory Verse - so that you can make sure kids are getting Scripture in their minds and hearts every single week and you can feel like each lesson was a success even when it seems like 90% of your lesson time is spent saying things like "calm down", "let's be quiet", "hands to yourself!"
  • Skit or Puppet Show - so you have a way to easily connect the lesson with your hands-on and visual learners. No drama team? No problem! Just hand the script to the kids. They'll have a blast and think you're the coolest.
  • Craft Activity - so you can give kids a physical reminder of the Bible lesson (and give yourself an activity to keep them busy until mom and dad come back!)
  • Game - so kids don't leave and say church was BORING! Games are so important to help keep kids engaged. Our large group games always include a "What's The Point" section to help you connect the game to the lesson.
  • Large Group Lesson - so you can present the Bible story in a clear and fun way, which means now you can enjoy Saturday nights instead of stressing over putting a lesson together!
  • Small-Group Discussion - so you can find out who was paying attention and who was talking to their neighbor.  Just kidding, this is a great way for you to build deeper relationships with your kiddos after each lesson, which means you're going to care about them so much you'll cry like a baby when they graduate and go to middle school :(
  • More! - Yes, there is even more than all of that so that you can easily put together the perfect lesson for your ministry each weekend, which means no more agonizing over how to adjust complicated lesson plans.
