Jesus came to show us what God is like!

What does the Bible’s account of Jesus’ birth reveal about who He is, and what He is like? Each week we’ll unwrap a Christmas present that will unwrap part of the Christmas story.

_______

Unwrapped Lessons Overview:

MEMORY VERSE:

“Praise be to the Lord, the God of Israel, because he has come to his people and redeemed them.” Luke 1:68 (NIV)

Lessons:

The Promise

Scripture: Isaiah 7:14, Isaiah 9:6-7, Hosea 11:1, Micah 5:2

Gift to Unwrap: Scrolls (Scrolls can be made with dowels or paper towel rolls and long rolls of paper. )This week we will unwrap scrolls and to talk about the prophets’ predictions about the Messiah. Jesus’ birth was no accident, God had planned every detail and gave us written proof to remind us that God is in control and his promises can be trusted.

Objective: Kids will learn that Jesus is the Messiah God promised to send.

The Human

Scripture: Luke 2:1-7

Gift to Unwrap: Baby diapers/baby suppliesThe baby supplies and diapers remind us that Jesus is/was 100% human. He became one of us so that He could love, teach, and save us. We can know that anything we suffer, Jesus knows what we feel like, because he’s felt that same pain.

Objective: Kids will learn that God knows how we feel because He became human.

The Threat

Scripture: Matthew 2:13-16

Gift to Unwrap: Flashing Red Light (or other warning sign)This week’s Bible story exposes Herod’s fear of a new king. We all have kingdoms. Our kingdoms are made up of everything around us that we can control; our things, our choices, our time… Just like Herod, Jesus threatens our kingdoms. He desires for us to follow His ways, and to subject our lives to His authority. Many people reject Jesus today for the same reason that Herod did. He threatens our ability to rule our own lives.

Objective: Kids will learn that following Jesus means surrendering our lives to him.

The Savior

Scripture: Luke 2:8-10, Matthew 2:1-2

Gift to Unwrap: Inflatable Globe (or picture of globe)The Shepherds were outsiders because of their vocations and lifestyles; living with animals in the fields. They were considered ceremonially unclean, and looked down upon by most people. The Magi were outsiders as well. They were foreigners who practiced divination of the stars, and would not have been allowed into the home of a “good” Jewish person. But all were invited because Jesus came for everyone.

Objective: Kids will learn that Jesus’ forgiveness is for everyone who will believe.

Each Lesson Includes:

Make It Stick! Parent Sheet - so you can let mom and dad know what kids are learning each week and look like a rockstar teacher who's thought of everything.

Memory Verse - so that you can make sure kids are getting Scripture in their minds and hearts every single week and you can feel like each lesson was a success even when it seems like 90% of your lesson time is spent saying things like "calm down", "let's be quiet", "hands to yourself!"

Skit or Puppet Show - so you have a way to easily connect the lesson with your hands-on and visual learners. No drama team? No problem! Just hand the script to the kids. They'll have a blast and think you're the coolest.

Craft Activity - so you can give kids a physical reminder of the Bible lesson (and give yourself an activity to keep them busy until mom and dad come back!)

Game - so kids don't leave and say church was BORING! Games are so important to help keep kids engaged. Our large group games always include a "What's The Point" section to help you connect the game to the lesson.

Large Group Lesson - so you can present the Bible story in a clear and fun way, which means now you can enjoy Saturday nights instead of stressing over putting a lesson together!

Small-Group Discussion - so you can find out who was paying attention and who was talking to their neighbor. Just kidding, this is a great way for you to build deeper relationships with your kiddos after each lesson, which means you're going to care about them so much you'll cry like a baby when they graduate and go to middle school

More! - Yes, there is even more than all of that so that you can easily put together the perfect lesson for your ministry each weekend, which means no more agonizing over how to adjust complicated lesson plans.
