God's Power, Our Freedom

This escape room-themed series will teach kids about the struggles of the Israelites in Egypt and God's plan to free them.

Escape From Egypt Lessons Overview

 Weeks 1-4

“He saved me from my powerful enemies. He set me free from those who were too strong for me.” Psalm 18:17 (NIRV)

Water Rescue

Scripture: Exodus 2:1-10, The Birth of Moses

Could anyone escape the evil Pharaoh's order that all baby boys born to Israelite women must die? God provided one mother with a plan that would save her son, Moses, and help him escape to a better life.

Objective: Kids will say “God has a plan for your life.”

Nowhere to Run

Scripture: Exodus 2:11-25, Moses Flees

In anger, Moses killed an Egyptian man, and was forced to flee from everything he knew. If we don't learn to escape from our anger, it can cause all kinds of trouble.

Objective: Kids will say “God helps me control my anger.”

Signs Ahead

Scripture: Exodus 3:1-12, The Burning Bush

God appeared to Moses in a burning bush and told him that God was sending Moses to free the Israelites from slavery. God revealed himself in signs and wonders to show that He had the power to use Moses for this great purpose.

Objective: Kids will say “I will say 'yes' to God's purpose for me.”

Obstacle Course

Scripture: Exodus 5:1-9 & Exodus 7:8-13, Moses and Aaron Before Pharaoh

In there quest to help the Israelites escape from Egypt, Moses and Aaron faced one giant obstacle: Pharaoh. We face many obstacles in our lives, but we can trust that God is with us through it all.

Objective: Kids will say “God is with me, no matter what obstacle I face.”

Weeks 5-8

Memory Verse:

“So the Lord used his mighty hand and powerful arm to bring us out of Egypt. He did great and terrifying things. He did signs and amazing things.” Deuteronomy 26:8 (NIRV)

Awesome Power

Scripture: Exodus 7:14-21, The Plague of Blood

Pharaoh would not let the Israelites leave Egypt, even to go out into the desert to worship God. God sent the first five plagues – blood, frogs, gnats, flies and livestock – to show Pharaoh, the Egyptians, and God's people His awesome power.

Objective: Kids will say “God shows us His awesome power.”

Believe the Unbelievable

Scripture: Exodus 9:22-35, The Plague of Boils

Pharaoh's heart was harder than ever, so God sent more plagues – boils, hail, locusts, and darkness – to show his power, and try to convince Pharaoh that God is to be believed and obeyed.

Objective: Kids will say “I choose to  believe and obey God.”

Power to Spare

Scripture: Exodus 11:1-10, The Plague of the Firstborn

There was one more plague in store for the land of Egypt: the death of every firstborn male, human and animal. Those angel of death passed over the house of those who obeyed God, and were spared from the terrible plague of death.

Objective: Kids will say “God has the power to save us.”

Water Rescue, Part II

Scripture: Exodus 14:10-29, Crossing the Red Sea

The Israelites had escaped Egypt, but now faced a new obstacle: the raging sea on one side and an army on the other, ready to take them back to slavery. Only God could provide an unbelievable water rescue that would guarantee their escape from Egypt.

Objective: Kids will say “God's love and power are unstoppable.”

Each Lesson Includes:
  • Make It Stick! Parent Sheet - so you can let mom and dad know what kids are learning each week and look like a rockstar teacher who's thought of everything.
  • Memory Verse - so that you can make sure kids are getting Scripture in their minds and hearts every single week and you can feel like each lesson was a success even when it seems like 90% of your lesson time is spent saying things like "calm down", "let's be quiet", "hands to yourself!"
  • Skit or Puppet Show - so you have a way to easily connect the lesson with your hands-on and visual learners. No drama team? No problem! Just hand the script to the kids. They'll have a blast and think you're the coolest.
  • Craft Activity - so you can give kids a physical reminder of the Bible lesson (and give yourself an activity to keep them busy until mom and dad come back!)
  • Game - so kids don't leave and say church was BORING! Games are so important to help keep kids engaged. Our large group games always include a "What's The Point" section to help you connect the game to the lesson.
  • Large Group Lesson - so you can present the Bible story in a clear and fun way, which means now you can enjoy Saturday nights instead of stressing over putting a lesson together!
  • Small-Group Discussion - so you can find out who was paying attention and who was talking to their neighbor.  Just kidding, this is a great way for you to build deeper relationships with your kiddos after each lesson, which means you're going to care about them so much you'll cry like a baby when they graduate and go to middle school :(
  • More! - Yes, there is even more than all of that so that you can easily put together the perfect lesson for your ministry each weekend, which means no more agonizing over how to adjust complicated lesson plans.
