Epic Beatitudes that Shook the World, For Real!
To say “no cap” means that someone is speaking truthfully and not lying. Jesus' words in the Beatitudes might seem “cray cray” to us sometimes, but he was speaking the truth about God's kingdom. When we follow Jesus' way of doing things, we will find ourselves going from “basic” to “extra” in no time at all.

No Cap! Children's Ministry Curriculum Lesson Overview
Memory Verse:
“Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you, and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.” Matthew 5:11-12 (NIV)
Lessons:
Boujee
Scripture: Matthew 5:3-12, focus on Matthew 5:3, Poor in SpiritWe might want to be like someone we know who is rich or fancy in wear, but Jesus said if we want to inherit the kingdom of heaven, we should avoid being boujee, and instead seek to be “poor in spirit.”
Objective: Kids will say “Blessed are the poor in spirit.” All the FeelsScripture: Matthew 5:3-12, focus on Matthew 5:4, Those Who MournOften, we don't want “all the feels” especially if those include sadness. But Jesus said that those who mourn are blessed because they will be comforted. Objective: Kids will say “Blessed are those who mourn.”
Extra
Scripture: Matthew 5:3-12, focus on Matthew 5:5, MeekIt might seem natural for some of us to be dramatic and attention seeking and too much to handle, but Jesus said that it would be the meek, not the “extra” who would inherit the earth.
Objective: Kids will say “Blessed are the meek.”
Rent-Free
Scripture: Matthew 5:3-12, focus on Matthew 5:6, Hunger and Thirst for Righteousness. Sometimes we get so preoccupied with an idea or a person or a thing that happened that they live “rent-free” in our brains. Jesus told us that our focus should be on righteousness – so much that we hunger and thirst for it.
Objective: Kids will say “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness.”
Cray Cray
Scripture: Matthew 5:3-12, focus on Matthew 5:7, Merciful. Showing mercy to someone instead of paying them back for what they did may seem downright “cray cray.” But Jesus said that merciful people are blessed, for they will also be shown mercy when they need it.
Objective: Kids will say “Blessed are the merciful.”
Basic
Scripture: Matthew 5:3-12, focus on Matthew 5:8, Pure in Heart. Being pure and not following after every desire or whim, may sound a bit “basic.” But Jesus said it was those who are pure in heart who would be blessed enough to see God.
Objective: Kids will say “Blessed are the pure in heart.”
Chill Out
Scripture: Matthew 5:3-12, focus on Matthew 5:9, Peacemakers. We might tell our friends who are fighting to “chill out” but that probably won't resolve the problem. Jesus said that it was those who take the time to actually make peace between people who are truly blessed. The peacemakers will be called children of God.
Objective: Kids will say “Blessed are the peacemakers.”
Shook
Scripture: Matthew 5:3-12, focus on Matthew 5:10-12, Persecuted. When someone says something bad about you, or tries to hurt you, of course you are going to feel “shook.” Jesus said that we will face persecution if we follow Him, but that we should not be shook, knowing that we will have a reward in heaven.
Objective: Kids will say “Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness.”

-
Memory Verse - so that you can make sure kids are getting Scripture in their minds and hearts every single week and you can feel like each lesson was a success even when it seems like 90% of your lesson time is spent saying things like "calm down", "let's be quiet", "hands to yourself!"
