Bible Journey Sunday School Lesson Overview:

Memory Verse:

“Never stop reading this Book of the Law. Day and night you must think about what it says. Make sure you do everything written in it. Then things will go well with you. And you will have great success.” Joshua 1:8 (NIrV)

Genesis

Genesis 17, God’s Covenant with Abraham

God made a promise to make Abraham’s descendants a mighty nation, even though he had no children. His promise to Abraham was also a promise to us. Even though we are not perfect, God has a plan for all of our lives.

Lesson on Abraham for small church (Year Long Bible Journey)

"I'm looking to purchase this year-long Bible curriculum, so I am reviewing this free lesson download on Abraham. This lesson had several elements in it that were positive. I don't think I could do everything in this lesson, but it was good to be able to choose from multiple aspects to incorporate. It had a skit which I think might be good to get the older kids in on a regular basis and bridge the gap between teens (doing the skit) and younger kids (watching the skit). It had a parent send-home sheet which I think is fantastic to keep the parents aware and partner with them so learning sticks. It had an object lesson which introduced/reinforced God's promise to Abraham. The teaching part of the lesson seemed short (the main lesson was 4 small to medium paragraphs plus scripture references). This may actually be a good thing for smaller children, but I just thought it was short. I like that there was a review power point made up already which could of course be made into a matching game or something if a church is non-digital. There were multiple ways to associate real life with the lesson (a skit, the concept of a family tree, Bible verse printed small so it can double as a coloring page plus take home) then the format of the large group teaching followed up by age-appropriate small group reinforcement is a good idea that I wouldn't have considered without the lesson. As for the big scope, I have seen the scope and sequence, but since this is a purchase for a 52-week curriculum, I wish we could get a smattering of the ideas of crafts and what the book looks like since there is a book option for purchase. I'm assuming that is a teacher book. Overall, I think this would be a good lesson. I know I referenced the shortness of the main lesson earlier, but the format and elements seems geared to get the kids onto short reinforcements along the way to maintain their attention (skit, object lesson, short main lesson, short small group discussion, short review game, short coloring/memory verse, short/simple coloring sheet), and that is a good thing! Overall, I like it!"

    Lesson 1 -Abraham

"I am keen to give the children a Genesis to Revelation overview of the Bible, and this looks perfect. I have downloaded the first lesson, and it follows the same format as other CMD. I love the lessons because they are easy to prepare, but also include an element of fun in the games and skit. My group are going to love the GOAT skit! I love it. I also love that the lessons work well with small groups like ours. Thank you again!"
