The Way to God Object Lesson Script
Has anyone ever seen one of these?
I kind of hope you don't have them around the house. They're a little dangerous, and if someone's put them out, it means there are mice to be caught. You know a mouse trap is a very simple device. It's just a piece of wood with a few tiny pieces of metal and a spring. To set the trap, you pull back on the spring and lock the metal bar into the catch. It's not very secure, so when the mouse touches the bait, it doesn't take a lot of movement for the trap to release and catch the mouse.
This is a very old design, and people have tried for years to invent better traps for mice. But a mouse trap is so simple, it's hard to improve on it. Have you ever heard the phrase, "He's trying to build a better mouse trap?" When people say that, they usually mean someone is doing something the hard way rather than the simple.
You know, there are a lot of people who try to build a better way to God. In fact, the world says there are many ways or roads to God. But the Bible says there's only one way to God, and that's through Jesus Christ, his son. Jesus said that he is the way and the truth and the life. And no one can come to God the Father except through him (John 14:6). Jesus made becoming a Christian very simple; he simply said "come to me." Let's make sure we show people the right way to God, and not try to build a better mouse trap.
